The Children's Room of the Oyster Bay - East Norwich Public Library is dedicated to serving young people from infancy to 5th grade, as well as parents, caregivers, and teachers. We make every effort to satisfy the educational and entertainment needs of the children of our community by providing reference and reader's advisory services, books, videos, musical recordings, computer programs, and toys. In addition, an Online Public Access Catalog, a CD-ROM computer with a printer, and Internet stations are available for children's use.

Reading to Dogs - July 6, 2011

The mission of the R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program is to improve the literacy skills of children through the assistance of registered therapy teams as literacy mentors. There are physiological benefits to interacting with animals, including increased relaxation and lower blood pressure. The premise of the R.E.A.D. program is that children will find reading to an animal less intimidating, a special time for them that is helpful and fun and will become a positive environment in which learning is facilitated.
